mister rogers says it best: 'i like to compare the holiday season with the way a child listens to a favorite story. the pleasure is in the familiar way the story begins, the anticipation of familiar turns it takes, the familiar moments of suspense, and the familiar climax and ending.'
there is something in the ritual of the songs, the stories, the trees, colors, smells and the new jammies on christmas eve that has always been special for me. it reminds me of sweet moments with my parents and sisters and brothers and is a path that i'm paving for my daughter. familiarity, connection, tradition.
this IS the first year that i've broke with tradition (new for me!) - we were traveling so much the first two weeks of december that we got a fake tree - a white one at that (michael has always wanted one!) i quite like it!
