oh by gosh, by golly...

i am in love with these custom holiday cards from rifle paper company! too bad we already sent our cards to the printer (for the first time ever in my life) or else i would have been seriously tempted to shell out the cash for these beauties.

and if you are a major procrastinator like i usually am, it is not too late to order these lovely postcards!

the beauty in every day

a fellow graphic designer and dear friend of mine just sent me the being there diary by frank chimero. i have always struggled with journals and have had some great years as well as lean years in the dear diary department. i am proud to say that i have filled almost two journals since elodie was born and have made a so-so attempt at this blog (ha!) well frank has made it easy by asking the question, 'what was the very best moment of your day?' c'mon, i had to have at least one moment to write about, right? i am excited to, once a day, give thanks for what the day has brought me!

it's beginning to look a lot like...waldorf!

this past saturday we took a trip to the pasadena waldorf school's annual elves faire. this is seriously the coolest holiday fair ever. the campus is tucked away in a beautiful stand of woods and since it was a bit rainy and foggy it actually felt like we were somewhere in the pacific northwest.

there were loads of fun crafts for children of all ages to make (from pine cone bird feeders to acorn garlands) and two stages of live music. elodie loved the bluegrass band!  i found lots of sweet little holiday gifts for sale - from soaps and lip balms to the famous waldorf dolls - which were all handcrafted by parents and students. i think my favorite part was going to the magic tea room where you put on capes and have tea and cupcakes and then your silhouette made. there were wizards walking around giving away crystals, students dressed up handing out tiny fortunes and lots of delicious organic food. what a fun day!

side note: i have become really interested in attending the waldorf parent and me program ever since i read the book, you are your child's first teacher by rahima baldwin. it's a great read and has good suggestions for activities for each age group. i am so happy that their are two good waldorf schools in my area and it is definitely on my short list for pre-school programs!

we are 23 months

i'm one of those silly mamas who give their babies age in months. for a while it was days, which slowly turned into weeks (while michael rolled his eyes), then we graduated to months. now it looks like we are about to graduate to years. my math is too horrid to calculate that she is, say, 31 months old.

i don't know how it happened but my little baby girl is almost two. 23 months has been pretty charming and also terrifying. the emergence of that big personality has me hook, line and sinker. but wow, when the clouds come over her and there is a squall, i hold on to whatever is around. and usually just stand there looking pretty sheepish. i'm pretty sure she knows i have no idea what i'm doing.

activities she likes:
- puzzles (melissa and doug puzzles we have had around for ages are suddenly grabbing her attention)
- she is really into filling up an old protein powder container with bow tie pasta and cooking it with her little toy vegetables
- magna doodle - she loves to draw and erase and point to her scribbles and say 'look, an airplane'

songs she likes:
- little bird, little bird by elizabeth mitchell
- jingle bells
- sleigh bells, reindeer & snow from john waters fantastic christmas album

as the sun sets on her second summer, i want to give thanks for all the joy she brings to my life. happy 23 months elodie!

let's remember to dance shall we?

i had to smile when i saw this watercolor from the wild unknown. i love t rex and something about the lyrics of cosmic dancer always make me want to break out in dance and hopefully a cloud will burst open and rain come pouring down while i'm spinning in circles and then a rainbow appears out of nowhere and the sun is shining through the glistening raindrops. ok. i've perhaps had too much coffee today. anyway, you must check out the rest of her website. serious, inspired beautiful gifts!

¡ay caramba!

today i have mexico on my mind! we are heading to zihuatanejo the first week of december
for 6 sun soaked days. i've never been to this area (next to acapulco) but i'm imagining it is going to be like a scene out of the 1944 disney movie, the three caballeros. it's been ages since i've seen it. the graphic design is incredible and i found this funny little number on you tube. i remember my sisters and i dancing around to the room watching this - psychedelic latin dance party! take a peak, it's friday after all...

meet the (great-grand) parents

elodie and i just spent a lovely 2 days in chicago visiting with her great-grandparents, charley and shirley. elodie was the name of my great-grandma (charley's mother) so it was extra special seeing them meet! we spent time on our aunt and uncle's lovely property, visited with her cousins and ate some great food.  i couldn't help but take pictures of elodie in her little coat. it's not often we get the cold weather to wear such cute winter clothes.

98º los angeles to 48º chicago

in one fell swoop! elodie and i are going to chicago tomorrow to visit her great grandpa charley (grumps), great grandma and family. she is named after his mother (her great-great grandmother) so i am extra excited to introduce her namesake to him. i pulled out this little vintage coat to bundle her up in which is making the thought of leaving this endless summer a little easier to bear. i've also stocked up on lots of snacks and her latest obsession, an aquadoodle, to make the travel fun! wish us luck...

why vintage?

well this seems like a question i really don't have to answer as everybody loves vintage right? i grew up in a big family (7 kids) and hand-me-downs were the name of the game. there still is something i love about seeing a sister or a niece wearing something that i found for them or that i once wore incessantly. and what is the fun of buying things that everyone else has? i'm guilty as the next but when we have a chance to practice sustainable living, why not? and darn, they grow so fast. so elodie gets to wear some of the sweetest little things and then they get a great new home. now on to my next quest, to find that geoffrey the giraffe jack in the box that is in the picture!

safety first

ok so i probably shouldn't share these as it shows me being a very negligent mother and not wearing a helmet while riding baby around BUT they are so dang cute! i rounded up some of my friends with babies and we shot some photos for the ace hotel palm springs. so far i'm loving november! click here to see more of the fantastic doug thomas' work.

hello november

even though it's the laziest, indian summer ever i'm dreaming of rainy days and café au laits.
