a good night's sleep

we are transitioning elodie out of the crib and into a "big girl bed" this weekend! a lot of her friends have them and she has been talking about it incessantly...still, she doesn't crawl out of her crib and sleeps through the night so it's been hard to not selfishly savor the guaranteed sleep. we went a few weeks ago to get the mattress and let her pick out the sheets (pink polka dot of course) and plan on talking to her about it tomorrow. i'm not sure if it's better to go cold turkey but we are leaving the crib up so she has the choice between the bed and her crib. i'm still on the hunt for the perfect twin bed frame so we are starting her off on the floor. i'm excited for this next phase and look forward to storytime every night in her bedroom. wish us luck!

  1. Good luck to you! We transitioned my daughter from crib to bed when she was a little over 3. Many of our friends did it earlier due to little climbers, but we didn't have that issue either. She needed a gentle transition so we opted for a toddler bed which she helped us build. She loves having a "big girl bed" and actually still calls for us when she needs something! Occasionally she pops out, but mostly stays put (she's 4 now). Sweet dreams :)

  3. We removed the sides of my daughters crib back in october (when she turned 3) as a way to sort of start the transition (and because we couldn't find a bed we liked/so we were also buying time )... she is still in it BUT we are in a desperate need of a bed...it just seems hard to find a nice /simple one...

wishing you all a very smooth transition....

    have a wonderful weekend...

  4. goodluck! I actually saw this very cute light with a timer and the parents can turn it on and teach the kids not to leave their room until the light turns on. It might be a good option if you want to show her the perfect time to come out of the room

  5. We are in the same boat! An almost 3 year old who sleeps all through the night, plus a 2 hours nap and he hasn't tried to climb out of his crib! And now, with a new baby, I so don't want to rock the boat. But the toddler bed is up and we read books there. You can see the set up here: http://projecthaus.blogspot.com/2012/02/before-after-room-for-two.html

I curious to see how it goes! Good luck!

As for a bed - have you seen the Jenny Lind bed from Land of Nod in raspberry? I think it would be so sweet in a room with mostly white or natural colors and then have that pop of color!

  6. every baby should transfer to a bigger bed when the baby needs more space to sleep.
