in the morning when you rise

my favorite part of the day. in the morning, i unwrap you from your swaddle. first one arm springs up, then the other, fists flying up above your fuzzy head of hair. your face scrunches up, a deep stretch arcing all the way up from your tippy toes, and your yawn takes in all the dancing light of morning and exhales the last bits of your sweet slumber. you are warm and a bit sweaty. mama and elodie cover you with kisses and you are all smiles for your family. my friend who is a native arabic speaker tells me that there are greetings in arabic that say so much more than good morning. morning of light, morning of jasmine. every day that i wake to you i come up with a new one. morning of shining dewdrops and orange blossoms. morning of soft whispers and sunlight. morning of you.

welcome to the morning beautiful francesca.

  3. Your words are so beautiful. I love the mornings too. When Rio was just a few months old and we'd manage to wake up before him, we'd just stare at him lying in between us, all warm and cozy. When his eyes would start to open, he'd give us the biggest smile and also do that adorable stretch/arching of the back/squishy face from being swaddled all night. That was only a few months ago, but it feels like so much longer. You make beautiful babies, mama!

  5. I love this! What a beautiful way to start the day. My twinlets are just three weeks old and I think I am going to adopt this as part of our morning ritual. Thanks again for inspiring such beauty in parenting.
