nirrimi and alba - seventeen months

there is something very romantic and simple about the way nirrimi lives her life with her family. it's so easy to get caught up in the trappings of our consumer culture. i feel content when i leave her online world and inspired to make better choices for my family (especially regarding food). i am at least a decade older than her and love that we all learn from each other at every point in this journey. that is a lifelong lesson. thank you beautiful nirrimi. also, i really loved this post...

When she was so new and tiny I spent whole days just marvelling at her existence. Then she learnt to smile, to learn, to crawl, to walk and the rhythm of my days learnt to fit her melody perfectly. Now she is 17 months and wilder than I ever imagined. See the bruises that dot my legs and arms, a bite mark on my breast. This is sometimes a difficult age for me, it feels like time is going so slowly and I feel impatient to hear her thoughts and create with her. But I love that she loves books now, I love when she is between myself and her Papa walking, I love feeding her all kinds of plants and hearing her say 'Mmmmmm' and I love that she willingly hugs and kisses me.

We don't have many toys for Alba. Some wooden toys passed on from Aunts. Mostly she likes to plant seeds in the garden, to read books, to play a drum while her Papa strums a guitar, to reorganise our cupboards, to follow other children around mimicking them and to be on the bed giggling as a family. She's happy so long as she has our attention and love.

Our favourite carrier at the moment is our Tula, which she is worn in every day.

We sing 'the clouds go floating' which is just an adaption we made to 'the ants go marching', and we sing it laying back on the grass watching the clouds pass.

The clouds go floating one by one, huwahhh, huwahh (wind sound)
The clouds go floating one by one, huwahhh, huwahh (wind sound)
The clouds go floating one by one, the little one stops to kiss the sun and they all go floating, over the earth.

The clouds go floating two by two, huwahhh, huwahh (wind sound)
The clouds go floating two by two, huwahhh, huwahh (wind sound)
The clouds go floating two by two, the little one stops in the sky so blue and they all go floating, over the earth.

The clouds go floating three by three, huwahhh, huwahh (wind sound)
The clouds go floating three by three, huwahhh, huwahh (wind sound)
The clouds go floating three by three, the little one rains onto the trees and they all go floating, over the earth."

As so on, making up as you go. The beauty is it can go on for a long time, which is very handy for settling her in the car.

Alba is a thrill seeker. She loves to be swung around, thrown high into the air or bounced on the trampoline. Sometimes we play "This little piggy" replacing beef with a different roasted vegetable every time.
