ojo de dios

i've always loved god's eyes - or ojo de dios - and remember making them when i was little. traditionally they were made by the huichol indians of mexico. the shape represents the four elements: earth, air, water, and fire. it's said that fathers would make them for each child on their birthday up to the age of five and then keep them together for the rest of their lives for health and well-being. i love this idea and am going to make one for each of the girl's rooms.

i did a search on etsy and came across this amazing vera scarf. such beautiful colors!
